Planning your Real Life Portrait Session

Photographs should reflect our connections with one another, show genuine emotion and real moments. I’m excited that you have booked a session with me, and I look forward to capturing some beautiful memories for you.

Let go of expectations. Your Real Life Portrait Session should be relaxed and fun. There is no pressure to sit still and stare at the camera with a fake frozen smile. If you have small children, let them be themselves. We want to play, to interact, and to connect.

Styling your Session

What should you wear?
Choose outfits that represent your personal style and taste, but don't be afraid to dress up more than usual. For groups, try and go with one colour scheme, e.g. mostly neutrals (grey, black,or white) then choose one or 2 accent colours to appear somewhere in each outfit. Stay away from logos or words on clothing, or from plain t-shirts.
My best advice is to choose clothes that have interesting textures (knits, linens, lace, light chiffons, etc.) and to layer your tops. Consider how the fabric MOVES. And MOST importantly, remember to ACCESSORIZE! Add scarves, jewellery, flower crowns, etc for women and vests/coats, scarves for men.

Where will the shoot take place?
This shoot can take place wherever you like. We can decide the location together. Let me know if you have any ideas for locations - somewhere personal to you, or some private property I might not be able to find on my own. The more meaningful the location, the more powerful your images will be. Consider an in-home session. These can be incredibly intimate, personal, and special.
I have lots of ideas for outdoor locations, and also have a simple studio space for minimal, modern shoots indoors when we have no other options (max 6 ppl). I am very flexible and I love discovering new and unconventional places!

What to Expect

I will contact you one to two days prior to your session in order to confirm that a) the weather will permit us to continue with outdoor sessions and b) at exactly which location we will be shooting, (if you have left the location scouting up to me). The reason I only confirm this so near to your session is that I like to verify in person each location at the time of meeting. You never know what construction/weather/ or festival might have changed the accessibility right before your session day.

On the day of your session: Please note that your session time starts exactly when scheduled. Please be on time for your session, or we will have less time for shooting.

Remember, any remaining balance is due at the time of your session. Payments may be made in cash, or via email money transfer.

Following your session, you may see a preview of your images via Facebook or Instagram - so be sure to follow @lacewoodstudios on both sites. You are free to tag yourself in those previews, or to share them on your feeds so that family and friends see them! As always, make sure to properly tag @lacewoodstudios when sharing any and all images.

Your full image gallery will be delivered to you in 2-3 weeks time. You will receive the link to your private, online gallery via email, including all the instructions for the free download of your high resolution digital files.
